Lot 954
INDIA, Post-Mauryan (Panchala). Panchalas of Adhichhatra. Yajnabala, circa 2nd century AD. 1/2 Karshapana (Bronze, 11 mm, 0.95 g). Lamp flanked by standards, all resting on sacred pedestal. Rev. YAJNABALA in Brahmi; above, three Panchala dynastic symbols. Apparently unpublished. About very fine.

From a collection of coins from Central Asia.

Shrimali records an early king called Yajnapala, but here the legend clearly reads Yajnabala. This and the much later fabric of the coin points towards a hitherto unrecorded ruler named Yajnabala ruling in the 2nd century AD.
